AN AFFILIATED SOCIETY OF THE AMERICAN ORCHID SOCIETY

ABOUT US
The Ridge Orchid Society, founded in 1962, meets monthly
(most months, check calendar listings for details), at the Bartow Civic
Center, located at 2250 S. Floral Avenue, Bartow, FL. The meeting is held the
4th Tuesday of the month it starts
at 7:30pm and concludes at approximately 9:00pm. Our Society serves primarily
Polk County and the surrounding area, although we have members that live as far
away as Canada. Our monthly meeting opens with Society business which is usually
followed by a presentation on an orchid topic (generally by a guest speaker who
is a recognized expert in the field of orchids). Refreshments, provided by club
members, are part of the
evening program, which also includes a plant table where members can display
their plants that are in bloom and occasionally plants for sale. The evening concludes with a coupon plant
drawing
and one door prize.
There are annual membership dues for individuals, families or couples. As a
member of the Ridge Orchid Society, an affiliated Society of the American Orchid
Society, you are entitled to all the benefits provided by the Society. These
include: the monthly ROS Newsletter, access to the ROS library of orchid books,
magazines, videos, etc., various discounts (with membership identification),
annual parties, trips
to botanical gardens and other related field trips. There are many fun and
educational opportunities such as study groups, help from experienced growers,
our incredible annual AOS judged orchid show, held in September at The
Lake Mirror Center in Lakeland,
trips to other orchid shows and visits to orchid growers which are free or at a small
cost to members.
